Seasons 2027: First Day of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter With Exact Times
Spring 2027 starts Mar. 20 at 20:25 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), per the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO). All four seasons here.

The four seasons of 2027 begin on Mar. 20, Jun. 21, Sep. 23 and Dec. 22 in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and the exact minute comes from the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO). Spring starts at 20:25 UTC on Saturday, Mar. 20, which is 4:25 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). The table below converts all four moments, plus Earth’s closest and farthest points from the Sun, to Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific Time and to London time.
Equinox and solstice times for 2027 in U.S. time zones and London
USNO’s Earth’s Seasons data gives each 2027 event to the minute in Universal Time, with daylight saving off. The conversions are our arithmetic. U.S. daylight saving time runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November under 15 U.S. Code 260a, which in 2027 is Mar. 14 to Nov. 7. In London, British Summer Time (BST) runs from Mar. 28 to Oct. 31, 2027, per GOV.UK; the rest of the year is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
| Event | UTC | Eastern Time (ET) | Central Time (CT) | Mountain Time (MT) | Pacific Time (PT) | London |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perihelion | Jan. 3, 02:33 | Jan. 2, 9:33 p.m. EST | Jan. 2, 8:33 p.m. CST | Jan. 2, 7:33 p.m. MST | Jan. 2, 6:33 p.m. PST | Jan. 3, 2:33 a.m. GMT |
| March equinox (spring) | Mar. 20, 20:25 | Mar. 20, 4:25 p.m. EDT | Mar. 20, 3:25 p.m. CDT | Mar. 20, 2:25 p.m. MDT | Mar. 20, 1:25 p.m. PDT | Mar. 20, 8:25 p.m. GMT |
| June solstice (summer) | Jun. 21, 14:11 | Jun. 21, 10:11 a.m. EDT | Jun. 21, 9:11 a.m. CDT | Jun. 21, 8:11 a.m. MDT | Jun. 21, 7:11 a.m. PDT | Jun. 21, 3:11 p.m. BST |
| Aphelion | Jul. 5, 05:06 | Jul. 5, 1:06 a.m. EDT | Jul. 5, 12:06 a.m. CDT | Jul. 4, 11:06 p.m. MDT | Jul. 4, 10:06 p.m. PDT | Jul. 5, 6:06 a.m. BST |
| September equinox (fall) | Sep. 23, 06:02 | Sep. 23, 2:02 a.m. EDT | Sep. 23, 1:02 a.m. CDT | Sep. 23, 12:02 a.m. MDT | Sep. 22, 11:02 p.m. PDT | Sep. 23, 7:02 a.m. BST |
| December solstice (winter) | Dec. 22, 02:42 | Dec. 21, 9:42 p.m. EST | Dec. 21, 8:42 p.m. CST | Dec. 21, 7:42 p.m. MST | Dec. 21, 6:42 p.m. PST | Dec. 22, 2:42 a.m. GMT |
Two dates shift with the clock. Fall begins on Sep. 22 in Pacific Time, not Sep. 23. Winter begins on Dec. 21 in every U.S. zone above, but Dec. 22 in UTC and in London. A calendar that prints “Dec. 21” for winter is right for U.S. readers in 2027 and a day off for UTC readers.
Season dates in 2027 by U.S. Eastern Time
For a wall calendar, the Eastern Time dates are the ones to mark. The weekdays are computed by us.
| Season | First day (ET) | Weekday | Time (ET) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Mar. 20 | Saturday | 4:25 p.m. EDT |
| Summer | Jun. 21 | Monday | 10:11 a.m. EDT |
| Fall | Sep. 23 | Thursday | 2:02 a.m. EDT |
| Winter | Dec. 21 | Tuesday | 9:42 p.m. EST |
The March equinox date is covered from the Persian New Year side in our Nowruz 2027 guide, and the Mar. 14 clock change that puts New York on EDT for it is in the 2027 clock change story. For the December moment one year earlier, see the winter solstice 2026 story: USNO lists it at 20:50 UTC on Dec. 21, 2026.
How long is each astronomical season in 2027?
Counting from one USNO moment to the next gives the length of each season. We computed these from the UTC times above; winter is left out because its end falls in March 2028, which is outside this data.
| Season | Starts (UTC) | Ends (UTC) | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Mar. 20, 20:25 | Jun. 21, 14:11 | 92 days 17 hours 46 minutes |
| Summer | Jun. 21, 14:11 | Sep. 23, 06:02 | 93 days 15 hours 51 minutes |
| Fall | Sep. 23, 06:02 | Dec. 22, 02:42 | 89 days 20 hours 40 minutes |
In 2027, summer is the longest of the three and fall the shortest, by 3 days 19 hours 11 minutes.
Meteorological and astronomical season dates side by side
Two systems use the same names. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says “Meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere includes March, April, and May,” and groups summer as June to August, fall as September to November and winter as December to February. It says the astronomical seasons are based on the position of Earth in relation to the sun. So the meteorological seasons start on the first of the month and the astronomical ones on the equinox or solstice.
| Season | Meteorological start | Astronomical start (ET) | Days between |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Mar. 1 | Mar. 20 | 19 |
| Summer | Jun. 1 | Jun. 21 | 20 |
| Fall | Sep. 1 | Sep. 23 | 22 |
| Winter | Dec. 1 | Dec. 21 | 20 |
The gap counts calendar days using the Eastern Time date. The astronomical dates move by hours from year to year; the meteorological ones do not move.
Print the 2027 equinox and solstice sheet
The printable “Seasons 2027: Equinox and Solstice Dates and Times” marks the four Eastern Time dates on a 2027 year calendar with the start times, and its source note names USNO. Our printable yearly calendar is the blank version, and the March 2027 calendar has room for the equinox note.
