UK School Term Dates 2026-27 and 2027-28: Half Terms and Easter in Westminster and Leeds

Westminster City Council and Leeds City Council both list Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027 as February half term, but their Easter 2027 holidays do not match. Westminster’s dates run from Good Friday, 26 March, to Friday 9 April, while Leeds City Council lists Monday 5 to Friday 16 April. The tables below set both councils side by side for 2026-27 and 2027-28, and the printable at the end keeps the 2026-27 year on one page.

School term dates 2026-27 in Westminster and Leeds

The Westminster dates come from the bi-borough document it shares with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Its notes call the dates “proposed”, and the council’s term dates page was updated on 29 October 2026. The document counts 195 school days for the year. Leeds publishes its dates on its own school holidays page.

Leeds starts its autumn term on Tuesday 1 September 2026. Its summer holidays run from Friday 23 July to Friday 3 September 2027. Westminster’s summer term runs from Monday 7 June to Thursday 22 July 2027.

Why do Easter 2027 school holidays differ?

The two councils agree on every 2026-27 break except Easter. Westminster’s holiday starts on Good Friday, 26 March 2027, and ends on Friday 9 April. Leeds starts on Monday 5 April, ten days later, and ends on Friday 16 April. A family with children in both areas would see one break end a week before the other does.

The May Day bank holiday falls on Monday 3 May 2027, per Westminster’s document. For the bank holiday dates across the country, see our story on UK bank holidays in 2027. If you plan leave around the breaks, the annual leave guide for 2027 shows how bank holidays stretch time off.

School term dates 2027-28: where the councils split

The 2027-28 year is published too, and the dates run into 2028. Here the February half terms fall a week apart.

What to check for other councils and schools

Westminster says academies and voluntary-aided schools may set different dates from the council’s. Councils such as Birmingham, Manchester, Kent and Glasgow publish their own calendars; their official pages could not be read automatically for this story, so no dates for them are given here. Check your council’s page and your school’s own letter before booking travel.

Print the dates for the year ahead with the printable school calendar. The February printable calendars and April printable calendars cover the half term and Easter months. For a comparison with another country, see the New York City public schools calendar for 2026-27.
