Volusia County Schools Calendar 2026-27: Winter Break, Spring Break and Last Day

Volusia County Schools’ 2026-2027 School Calendar starts the Thanksgiving holiday on Monday, Nov. 23, 2026, the winter holiday on Monday, Dec. 21 and the spring holiday on Monday, March 15, 2027, and ends the year for students on Wednesday, May 26, 2027. Students start Monday, Aug. 10, 2026. The next day off is Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, which this Florida district lists as a holiday.

The district’s PDF prints no approval date. It also prints only when each break starts and when classes resume, so the table below gives the weekdays between the two, our count.

Volusia County break dates for 2026-27

Break	Starts	Classes resume	Weekdays off
Thanksgiving holiday	Mon., Nov. 23, 2026	Mon., Nov. 30, 2026	5
Winter holiday	Mon., Dec. 21, 2026	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027	11
Spring holiday	Mon., March 15, 2027	Tue., March 23, 2027	6

The winter count includes Monday, Jan. 4, which the calendar lists as “Teacher Duty Day/Student Holiday.” The spring count includes Monday, March 22, listed the same way. The PDF does not print the last day off of any break, so confirm the end dates on the district’s calendars page before booking travel. For other districts, see our winter break roundup and the spring break 2027 list.

Memorial Day is not on the calendar. It falls after the last day. The four grading periods on the PDF run 43, 43, 47 and 47 days, which add up to 180. Plan the first break on the November 2026 calendar.

What is the Sept. 21 makeup day in Volusia County?

Monday, Sept. 21, 2026 is marked “Professional Development Day” with two asterisks. The footnote reads: “September 21 will be used as a makeup day for inclement weather if needed.” The calendar does not say whether students attend if it is used, so the printable lists it as unconfirmed. It falls two weeks after Labor Day.

Which Volusia County days are early release?

The calendar’s heading is “Early Release Dates – Dismissal 1 hour early.” It says: “All Wednesdays except November 20, December 18 and March 12, which are Fridays.” There is no early release in the full-time equivalent (FTE) weeks of Oct. 7 and Feb. 3, the calendar says. The district lists the Wednesdays by month:

Month	Early release dates
August 2026	Aug. 12, 19, 26
September 2026	Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
October 2026	Oct. 14, 21, 28
November 2026	Nov. 4; Friday, Nov. 20
December 2026	Dec. 2, 9; Friday, Dec. 18
January 2027	Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27
February 2027	Feb. 10, 17, 24
March 2027	March 3, 24, 31; Friday, March 12
April 2027	April 7, 14, 21, 28
May 2027	May 5, 12, 19, 26

The three Fridays are the last school day before Thanksgiving, winter and spring break. May 26 is both an early release Wednesday and the last day for students. The printable marks each date, so you can see the week’s short day at a glance.

How does Volusia County’s 2027-28 calendar compare?

The district has already posted its “2027–2028 School Calendar,” labeled “180-Day Student Calendar” with “Board Approval: 10/13/26.” It lists the dates below. A box on the 2027-28 PDF says the week of Thanksgiving will not include make-up days for inclement weather, and names Monday, Sept. 20, 2027 as the make-up day.
