Waffle (wafflegame.net) puzzle #1752, for Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, starts with just five of its 21 tiles in the right place. All five are crossing squares, so each one helps two words. Each word below has a hint; the answers and the full route are in the marked spoiler section.

Today’s count of green tiles is small, and the tile colors are explained on our Waffle page.

Hints for each word

Across

  • Row 1: starts with L and ends with E. A long spear.
  • Row 3: starts with M and ends with O. A lively Latin dance.
  • Row 5: starts with R and ends with E. A long, narrow raised strip of high ground.

Down

  • Column 1: starts with L and ends with R. A small primate.
  • Column 3: starts with N and ends with D. A person who moves from place to place instead of settling.
  • Column 5: starts with E and ends with E. To run off together, usually to get married in secret.

Which tiles start green, and how far along is each word?

The five green tiles are the four corners and the center. A corner belongs to one row and one column, and the center belongs to row 3 and column 3, so every green tile is shared. That is why the word-by-word count looks like this:

WordTiles already in place
Row 12 of 5
Row 31 of 5
Row 52 of 5
Column 12 of 5
Column 31 of 5
Column 52 of 5

The counts add up to 10, twice the number of green tiles. The best any word does is two letters, both at its ends, and the two words through the center have only their middle letter home. Not one of the 16 other tiles starts green, and that includes the four squares next to the holes, the ones that belong to a single word each.
