Black Friday 2026 Price Adjustments: What Target, Best Buy and Walmart Do If a Price Drops

Target’s 2026 holiday price adjustment window covers purchases made from Sunday, Nov. 1, if Target’s own price drops on or before Thursday, Dec. 24, according to Target’s Price Match Guarantee page. Best Buy says it matches its own lower price during the return and exchange period, and Walmart’s policy says Walmart.com does not refund later drops on Walmart.com purchases. Policies were checked on each retailer’s own page on Oct. 30, 2026.

How does Target’s holiday price adjustment work?

Target says that starting Nov. 1, 2026, if you buy an item in store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before Dec. 24, 2026, you can request an adjustment. Nov. 1 is a Sunday. Proof of purchase is required.

Outside those dates, Target’s page gives a 14-day window for items bought before Nov. 1, 2026, or after Dec. 24, 2026. Target’s help article says price matches may be requested at the time of purchase or within 14 days after, and that original receipts or packing slips are required for adjustments within 14 days of purchase.

The item must be identical in brand, size, weight, color, quantity and model number. Target lists what it does not adjust:

• a lower price at a different Target store (in store);
• items with a promotional Target GiftCard, a Registry completion coupon or other Target coupons;
• Target Circle Bonuses and Target coupons, which cannot be applied with a price match;
• clearance, closeout, liquidation or refurbished items, and typographical errors;
• Target.com matches in Alaska and Hawaii, which are not available.

Target also says other exclusions may apply. To ask, go to checkout or Guest Services with the Target App, Target.com or the digital ad ready, and bring the original receipt or order number. Target does not accept screenshots or pictures. The phone number is 1-800-591-3869.

How does Best Buy handle a price drop after purchase?

Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee page, with an effective date of Oct. 30, 2026, says that if it lowers its in-store, online or app price during the return and exchange period, it will match the lower price on request. The page does not state the length of that period, so we do not give a number.

Separately, Best Buy’s Holiday Price Match Guarantee says most products bought between Oct. 30 and Dec. 31 can be price matched through Jan. 15. Oct. 30 is a Friday, Dec. 31 a Thursday and Jan. 15, 2027 a Friday. Our Best Buy holiday calendar lists the other store dates.

Best Buy’s page says these items are excluded:

• items marked as Black Friday pricing;
• Marketplace products from third-party sellers;
• membership program pricing;
• financing, bundles, subscriptions, clearance, open-box, refurbished and gift card offers.

Does Walmart refund a lower price later?

Not on Walmart.com. Walmart’s Price Match Policy, listed in its corporate policies, says Walmart.com does not match prices for items previously purchased on Walmart.com that have since decreased in price. The same page says Walmart does not match competitors’ online or in-store prices, and that Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are among the special events it does not match.

The policy text on the page is dated June 8, 2023, and Walmart says it reserves the right to change the policy at any time.

What about Amazon?

Amazon’s Price Matching help page returned a 503 server error when we checked it on Oct. 30, 2026. Its current terms are not confirmed, so this story makes no claim about Amazon’s policy. Check the page before you buy.

What should you keep to claim an adjustment?

Target requires proof of purchase and, within 14 days, the original receipt or packing slip. Keep the receipt or order number for any of these stores, and keep the Black Friday date in mind: Black Friday is Friday, Nov. 27, and Cyber Monday is Monday, Nov. 30. Why might a price adjustment request be refused?

Only the reasons the policies list apply here:

• the item is not identical (Target) or not a matching brand, model number and color (Best Buy);
• the lower price is a clearance, closeout, refurbished, open-box or similar offer;
• the lower price is on a Marketplace or third-party listing (Best Buy, Walmart);
• the item is marked Black Friday pricing (Best Buy);
• the request falls outside the dates in the table above.
