The Federal Reserve observes 11 holidays in 2027, according to the Federal Reserve Board’s “Holidays Observed - K.8” schedule (last updated July 8, 2026), and a Saturday rule decides which Fridays Reserve Banks stay open. Two holidays, Juneteenth and Christmas Day, fall on Saturdays in 2027, and Independence Day falls on a Sunday. The first four columns come from the Federal Reserve Board’s K.8 page; the last column is the OPM “Federal Holidays” 2027 table. The K.8 page also lists New Year’s Day 2028, a Saturday (Jan. 1, 2028): Reserve Banks are open the Friday before, Dec. 31, 2027, and the Board is closed that day.

What is the Federal Reserve’s Saturday rule?

The Board states two rules. “For holidays falling on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be open the preceding Friday; however, the Board of Governors will be closed.” And: “For holidays falling on Sunday, all Federal Reserve offices will be closed the following Monday.”

Applied to 2027, that gives three Fridays when Reserve Banks are open and the Board is closed: June 18 (Juneteenth), Dec. 24 (Christmas) and Dec. 31 (New Year’s Day 2028). On Monday, July 5, the Sunday rule closes the Reserve Banks and the Board. The K.8 footnotes name these same dates.

By our count, Reserve Banks close on 9 weekdays in 2027: the eight holidays that fall Monday to Friday plus Monday, July 5. Because Juneteenth and Christmas fall on Saturdays, they cost the Reserve Banks no weekday. The Board is closed on 12 weekdays, those 9 plus the three Fridays above. Both numbers are our arithmetic from the K.8 list, not figures the Fed publishes.

Are Federal Reserve Banks open on Juneteenth 2027?

Juneteenth National Independence Day falls on Saturday, June 19, 2027. Under the Saturday rule, Reserve Banks and Branches are open Friday, June 18, and the Board of Governors is closed. Check your own bank’s hours for the weekend itself.

Which Fridays do federal offices close while Reserve Banks stay open?

Two, according to the two official lists side by side. OPM’s 2027 table shows Friday, June 18 (Juneteenth) and Friday, Dec. 24 (Christmas) as federal holidays, and OPM says: “If a holiday falls on a Saturday, for most Federal employees, the preceding Friday will be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes.” The K.8 schedule says Reserve Banks are open on those same two days.
