The table below sets the six solemnities side by side, and a free one-page card is at the end.

The columns follow the USCCB calendar’s own rows and notes. The Hawaii column rests on note 4 of the calendar: “In a decree dated March 23, 1992, the Bishop of Honolulu designated Christmas and the Immaculate Conception as the only two Holydays of Obligation for the State of Hawaii.” The calendar does not list which dioceses belong to which province, so check with your diocese or parish.

Is All Saints’ Day 2027 a holy day of obligation?

No. All Saints is Monday, Nov. 1, 2027, and the USCCB row reads “All Saints (not a Holyday of Obligation this year)”. Note 6d explains: “In accord with the complementary norm to canon 1246 §2 confirmed for the dioceses of the United States of America, because it is a Monday, this year the obligation to attend Mass on this date is abrogated.” The solemnity itself stays on the calendar; what is lifted is the duty to attend Mass. For the 2026 version of this question, see our story on All Saints and All Souls in 2026.

Is Jan. 1, 2027 a holy day of obligation?

Yes. January 1, 2027 is a Friday, and the USCCB lists “Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God … The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord” as a Solemnity with the Holyday of Obligation mark. The row carries no note limiting it to certain provinces. Our January 2027 printable calendar shows the day, and our January 2027 dates story lists what else falls that month.

When is Ascension Thursday 2027, and is it a holy day of obligation?

Thursday, May 6, 2027, but only in some places. Note 6b of the USCCB calendar says May 6 is the Solemnity of the Ascension “in the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Omaha, and Philadelphia.” In those provinces the row carries the Holyday of Obligation mark. “All other ecclesiastical provinces of the United States of America have transferred this Solemnity to the following Sunday, May 9; on Thursday, May 6, the Easter weekday is observed.” The Sunday row, “9 Sun The Ascension of the Lord”, has no holyday bracket.

Is the Assumption a holy day of obligation in 2027?

The USCCB row reads “15 Sun The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary … Solemnity”. It falls on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2027, and carries no holyday bracket. That is all the calendar says on it, so ask your parish if you want to know how it treats the day.

What about Dec. 8 and Dec. 25, 2027?

The Immaculate Conception, the “Patronal Feastday of the United States of America”, is Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2027, and Christmas is Saturday, Dec. 25, 2027. Both rows carry the Holyday of Obligation mark, and both apply in Hawaii as well. For readers planning this year, the same calendar lists Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2026 and Christmas on Friday, Dec. 25, 2026 as holydays; see our Immaculate Conception 2026 story and the December printable calendar.

What does the printable show?

The one-page card marks the six solemnities, plus the Sunday, May 9 Ascension date, on a 2027 calendar. Each mark is numbered and labeled with its status in words, so it reads in black and white. It is drawn from the USCCB calendar listed under Sources.
