Today’s Quordle from Merriam-Webster is puzzle #1742, for Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. The four words start with D, P, S and B, and every one of them has an E inside. The clues below are grouped by each word’s first letter, because the published solutions we checked agree on the words, but only one says which board each word is on. The answers are in a marked spoiler section at the end.

How Quordle works

You have nine guesses to solve four five-letter words. Every guess is entered on all four boards at once, and the tiles color like Wordle’s: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the wrong spot, gray for a letter not in that word.

Clues for each word

The word that starts with D

  • Letters: starts with D, ends with E, and has an R and an O inside; two vowel letters, no repeated letter.
  • Meaning: the past tense of a verb for steering a car.

The word that starts with P

  • Letters: starts with P, ends with D, and has an R, an I and an E inside; two vowel letters, no repeated letter.
  • Meaning: forced something open with a lever.

The word that starts with S

  • Letters: starts with S, ends with L, and has an H and an E inside; only one vowel letter, and it is the only word today that repeats a letter.
  • Meaning: the hard outer covering of an egg, a nut or a snail.

The word that starts with B

  • Letters: starts with B, ends with N, and has an E, a G and an I inside; two vowel letters, no repeated letter.
  • Meaning: to start something.

A starter strategy for today

A first guess such as Raise, with R, A, I, S and E, puts at least one letter into all four boards, because E turns up in every word. Solve the board with the most green first, and do not spend a guess on a board that is already solved.
