Today’s Quordle from Merriam-Webster is puzzle #1740, for Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. Two words start with B and the other two start with D and U, and all four are common English words. The clues below are grouped by each word’s first letter, because the published solutions we checked agree on the words but not all list them without saying which board each one is on. How Quordle works

You have nine guesses to solve four five-letter words. Every guess is entered on all four boards at once, and the tiles color like Wordle’s: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the wrong spot, gray for a letter not in that word.

Clues for each word

The two words that start with B

• First B word, letters: starts with B, ends with N, and has an R, an A and an I inside.
• First B word, meaning: the organ in the head that controls thinking.
• Second B word, letters: starts with B, ends with N, and has an E, a G and a U inside.
• Second B word, meaning: the past participle of “begin”, meaning started.

The word that starts with D

• Letters: starts with D, ends with Y, and has an I, an M and an L inside.
• Meaning: in a way that is not bright or clear, as in a room lit faintly.

The word that starts with U

• Letters: starts with U, ends with R, and has an L, a C and an E inside.
• Meaning: an open sore on the skin or inside the body, such as one in the stomach.

A starter strategy for today

A first guess such as Crane, with C, R, A, N and E, puts at least one letter into three of the four boards. A second guess such as Doubt, which adds D, O, U, B and T, reaches the fourth board and adds a letter to each of the other three. Solve the board with the most green first, and do not spend a guess on a board that is already solved.
