Virginia Beach City Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: Winter Break, Spring Break, Last Day

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) lists Winter Break as Dec. 21-31, 2026 and Jan. 1, 2027, and Spring Break as March 29 to April 2, 2027, in its 2026-2027 School Calendar. The last day of school for students is Friday, June 11, 2027.

The calendar PDF is marked “Adopted Nov. 12, 2024” and “Revised July 15, 2026”, and is linked from the district’s VBCPS Calendar page. It does not say what the July 15, 2026 revision changed. The next day with no school for students is Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.

Virginia Beach school breaks in 2026-27

Weekdays off are our count from the district’s dates.

Break	No school for students	Weekdays off	Students return
Thanksgiving	Wed., Nov. 25 to Fri., Nov. 27, 2026	3	Mon., Nov. 30, 2026
Winter Break	Mon., Dec. 21, 2026 to Fri., Jan. 1, 2027	10	Mon., Jan. 4, 2027
Spring Break	Mon., March 29 to Fri., April 2, 2027	5	Mon., April 5, 2027

Return days are inferred: the calendar lists no closure on Nov. 30, Jan. 4 or April 5.

VBCPS spring break 2027

Spring Break is March 29 to April 2, 2027. By our calculation Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027, so the break is the week after Easter. Friday, April 9 is a Staff Day with school closed for students, one week after the break ends. For another Virginia district, see our Fairfax County calendar story and the spring break 2027 roundup.

VBCPS winter break and the return day

Winter Break runs Monday, Dec. 21 through Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, plus Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, which the calendar lists in the same line. That is 10 weekdays. Students return Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, a day on which the calendar lists no closure. Other districts are compared in our winter break 2026 roundup.

Can weather closings change the Virginia Beach school calendar?

Yes, and the days that would be used are days off now. The calendar says: “In cases of school closings due to inclement weather or emergency conditions, makeup days will be designated by the superintendent and may include available staff days or holidays.”

It designates one makeup day for each of the first three quarters: Nov. 2 for Q1, Jan. 25 for Q2 and April 9 for Q3. Q4 is “Designated by the superintendent.” Jan. 25 and April 9 are both Staff Days, so a closing for snow or another emergency could turn either into a school day for students. The calendar does not say how many closings would trigger that. The printable lists the three dates as unconfirmed.

When does the VBCPS 2027-28 calendar come out?

The 2027-28 calendar is not yet posted on the district’s calendar page. Check the page before you book travel that depends on it.
