Waffle (wafflegame.net) puzzle #1748 is today’s grid, for Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, and it packs six five-letter words into one waffle-shaped board. Three words read across, three read down, and all six are everyday English. Take the clues one word at a time; the answers and the starting grid wait in a marked spoiler section at the bottom.

How Waffle works

The board is five tiles wide and five tall, with four holes, so 21 letters are in play. Rows 1, 3 and 5 hold the across words, and columns 1, 3 and 5 hold the down words. A swap trades any two letters, and the game gives you 15 swaps. The game’s own rules page sets the tile colors:

Tile colorWhat it means
GreenThe letter is in the right place.
YellowThe letter is in that row or column, but in a different spot.
GrayThe letter is not in that row or column.

A corner tile belongs to two words, so it can turn yellow because of either one. You earn a star for every swap left once the Waffle is solved, and the game says every Waffle can be solved in a minimum of 10 swaps.

Clues for each word

Across

  • Row 1: starts with O and ends with E, and has the letter V in the fourth spot. A noun for a small oval fruit that is pressed for oil.
  • Row 3: starts with T and ends with R, and has the letter P in the middle. A verb meaning to narrow gradually toward one end.
  • Row 5: starts with R and ends with R, and has the letter L in the third spot. A noun for a flat strip used to measure length or draw a straight line.

Down

  • Column 1: starts with O and ends with R, shares its first letter with the row 1 word and its last letter with the row 5 word, and has the letter T in the middle. A noun for a swimming mammal with a sleek brown coat that eats fish.
  • Column 3: starts with I and ends with L, and shares its first letter with the third letter of the row 1 word, its middle letter with the middle of the row 3 word and its last letter with the third letter of the row 5 word. A verb meaning to drive or push something forward.
  • Column 5: starts with E and ends with R, and shares its first letter with the last letter of the row 1 word and its last letter with the last letter of the row 5 word, and has the letter R in the middle. A noun for a mistake.

A solving tip for today

Look at the letter pile before you swap anything. Of the 21 tiles, one letter shows up five times, another four times, three letters twice and six letters once, so most of your swaps will move a repeated letter between two lines that both want it. Six tiles start green: all four corners of the board plus two on the middle lines, which leaves 15 to move. Because the two bottom corners and the top corners are already settled, you can fill the edges first and let the middle tiles fall into place afterward. Aim for swaps that turn both tiles green, and treat a yellow tile as a sign that its letter belongs somewhere else on the same row or column. With 15 swaps and a minimum of 10, you have room for about five wasted moves before a star is lost.
