Today’s Wordle from The New York Times (NYT) is puzzle #1964, for Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, edited by Tracy Bennett. The answer has one repeated letter, and the two matching tiles sit next to each other, which changes how you plan your first guesses. Take the clues one at a time, and only scroll to the last section if you want the answer itself.

How Wordle works

You get six tries to find a five-letter word. After each guess, a green tile means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the word at all. A letter that appears twice is only marked twice if you guess it twice. Gray tiles matter too.

Guessing tips for today

Show the solving tips

Because one letter repeats, a row that turns three or four tiles green with nothing left to try usually means one of those letters belongs twice. With a single vowel, an opener that tests three or four vowels at once shows which one it is in a single row, and the rest of the hunt is consonants. Use gray tiles as much as green ones.
