The first full meal-planning week of 2027 starts on Sunday, Jan. 3, and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) says raw poultry and ground meat keep only 1 to 2 days in the refrigerator, while cooked meat dishes keep 3 to 4. Those limits decide which dinners go early in the week, so this story lines them up with the 2027 calendar and ends with a printable weekly menu and grocery list.
The sheet has a Sunday-to-Saturday menu with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack slots, a grocery list and the storage limits from the MDH Refrigerator and Freezer Storage Chart. Pair it with the printable weekly calendar for appointments, and see the January 2027 reset planner and the home maintenance calendar for 2027 for the rest of the home routine.

How do refrigerator limits shape a weekly menu?
The MDH chart gives “short, conservative storage times,” with refrigerator days at 40°F and freezer months at 0°F. The table below counts those days from a Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027 shop or cook day. The dates are our count from the chart, not dates the MDH prints.
| Food (MDH chart label) | Refrigerator limit | Last day if bought or cooked Sun., Jan. 3 | Freezer limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hamburger (raw ground meat) | 1 to 2 days | Mon., Jan. 4 to Tue., Jan. 5 | 3 to 4 months |
| Fresh poultry (all) | 1 to 2 days | Mon., Jan. 4 to Tue., Jan. 5 | 6 to 9 months |
| Meat dishes (cooked) | 3 to 4 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Thu., Jan. 7 | 2 to 3 months |
| Beef | 3 to 5 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Fri., Jan. 8 | 6 to 12 months |
| Pork | 3 to 5 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Fri., Jan. 8 | 4 to 8 months |
| Soups, stews | 3 to 5 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Fri., Jan. 8 | 2 to 3 months |
| Deli salad (egg, tuna, macaroni) | 3 to 5 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Fri., Jan. 8 | Don’t freeze |
| Lunch meat (opened) | 3 to 5 days | Wed., Jan. 6 to Fri., Jan. 8 | 1 to 2 months |
| Franks (hot dogs, opened) | 7 days | Sun., Jan. 10 | 1 to 2 months |
| Hard-cooked eggs | 7 days | Sun., Jan. 10 | Don’t freeze |
| Eggs, fresh in shell | 21 days | Sun., Jan. 24 | Don’t freeze |
In practice, the chart points to a simple order for the week. Raw poultry and ground meat go on the Sunday to Tuesday dinners, or into the freezer the day you buy them. A pot of soup or a meat dish cooked on Sunday is covered through Wednesday or Thursday, and for soups and stews through Friday. Beef and pork bought on Sunday can wait until Wednesday to Friday. Eggs in the shell have the longest window on the chart, 21 days.
How should frozen food move through the week?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says on its Preventing Food Poisoning page to thaw frozen food safely in the refrigerator, in cold water or in the microwave, and never on the counter, because bacteria multiply quickly in the parts of the food that reach room temperature. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) names the same three ways in Refrigerator Thermometers - Cold Facts about Food Safety.
The FDA adds two rules that affect the menu. Food thawed in cold water needs the water changed every half hour so it stays cold, and food thawed in the microwave must be cooked right away. A menu line such as “Thursday dinner: chili from the freezer” is a reminder to move it to the refrigerator earlier. This story does not give thawing times, because the sources it uses do not list them.
What do the CDC temperature rules add?
The CDC says to keep the refrigerator at 40°F or below and the freezer at 0°F or below. It says never to leave perishable food out for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour if it is exposed to temperatures above 90°F. Perishable food includes meat, seafood, dairy, cut fruit, some vegetables and cooked leftovers, and the CDC says to refrigerate it within 2 hours. It also gives 165°F as the temperature for leftovers and casseroles.

The printable is one Letter-size page. It has a menu line for each day from Sunday to Saturday, a grocery list split by what to cook first and what can wait, the MDH refrigerator and freezer limits, and the CDC checks on 2-hour chilling, thawing and 165°F. Fill in the first line with the Sunday date from the table above, then print one copy a week.
