Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for January 2027 load on each state’s standing monthly schedule, as published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS): Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont and the U.S. Virgin Islands issue to every household on Friday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day. Nine more places have ranges that include both Jan. 1 and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18, so their rows are flagged below.
The FNS schedule is the standing monthly schedule, and the state’s own notice is final. The USDA pages could not be opened by automated tools on Nov. 2, so the days below come from the same schedule used in our December 2026 SNAP story and our November 2026 SNAP story, whose FNS page shows a last-updated date of July 26, 2024. We found no FNS announcement that affects January 2027 issuance. Your state agency’s notice or Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) portal is the place to confirm your day.
What are the SNAP deposit days in each state in January 2027?
January 1, 2027 is a Friday, and Jan. 2 and 3 are a Saturday and Sunday. The table gives each place’s days from the FNS schedule, with one change: Connecticut shows its new schedule. The first-day and last-day weekdays are computed for January 2027. The last column flags ranges that include Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day) or Jan. 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day); your household’s own day depends on the digit, letter or number your state uses, which is in the FNS PDF and your state’s notice.

Connecticut’s row is a correction to what many schedules still show. The Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) said on Jan. 16, 2026: “Starting on March 1st, 2026, DSS will issue SNAP and Cash benefits on new days.” SNAP now goes out over the first 8 days of the month, by the last two digits of the Client ID: 00-12 on the 1st, 13-24 on the 2nd, 25-37 on the 3rd, 38-49 on the 4th, 50-62 on the 5th, 63-74 on the 6th, 75-87 on the 7th and 88-99 on the 8th. Before March 1 it was the first 3 days by last name, which matches the 1st to 3rd that the FNS table shows.
Pennsylvania counts business days. Its first 10 business days run from Monday, Jan. 4 to Friday, Jan. 15 when weekends are skipped and Jan. 1 is counted as a holiday, as the PDF describes holidays being excluded; its counties use one, two or ten pay-day cycles. New York City posts on 13 days in the first two weeks of the month, and the city publishes its own schedule. Texas lists one set of days for households certified after June 1, 2020 (16th to 28th) and another for earlier households (1st to 15th); the Texas Health and Human Services Texas Works Handbook, section B-250, says households receive their monthly benefits “on a staggered basis from the 1st through the 28th day of the month,” by the last two digits of the eligibility determination group (EDG) number. For states with a digit or letter rule, such as Hawaii, Illinois and Utah, the first and last days are the ends of the listed days.
Does New Year’s Day or Martin Luther King Jr. Day change SNAP deposits?
New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18, 2027, are federal holidays. Whether a state moves a deposit that falls on a holiday depends on the state, so check your state’s notice or EBT portal. Connecticut’s and Texas’s pages state no weekend or holiday rule either, and we do not say any deposit moves.
The FNS document names no New Year’s shift for most states. It does say Pennsylvania’s first 10 business days exclude weekends and holidays, and that New York City posts on days that are not Sundays or holidays. For Puerto Rico it says: “Usually for Holy Friday, Thanksgiving and New Year, benefits are available another day instead the holiday.” That is a note about the usual practice in that document, not a January 2027 announcement. How much SNAP can a household get in January 2027?
The maximum monthly benefit rose on Oct. 1, 2026, for fiscal year 2027, which runs to Sept. 30, 2027, so it does not change in January. The USDA page for the table was not reachable, so these figures rest on two newsrooms that agree. Colorado Politics (Sept. 28, 2026) and News4Jax (Oct. 2, 2026) both report the amounts for the 48 states and the District of Columbia (DC).
| Household size | Maximum monthly benefit from Oct. 1, 2026 | Before the increase |
|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $306 | $298 |
| 4 people | $1,023 | $994 |
These are maximum monthly benefits for the 48 states and DC. We left out the other household sizes and Alaska and Hawaii because the two reports did not give us figures we could confirm for them.
Which weekend and holiday dates fall in January 2027?
The weekend dates in January 2027 are Jan. 2 and 3, 9 and 10, 16 and 17, 23 and 24, and 30 and 31. A range in the table can include those days, and the FNS document gives no weekend shift rule for most states. Mark your day on the January 2027 printable calendar, look back at the December 2026 calendar for the end of this year’s schedule, or use a printable yearly calendar to see the whole year.
