The total solar eclipse of Monday, Aug. 2, 2027 reaches its greatest point at 10:06:37.7 Universal Time (UT) near 25°30.3’N, 33°11.0’E in Egypt, with 6 min 22.6 s of central totality, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). That is 6:06 a.m. Eastern Time (ET). The table below turns the official local times for Spain and Egypt into UT and ET. For the dates of all five 2027 eclipses, see our overview of the 2027 eclipses.

The eclipse is not visible from the U.S. Spain sees totality in the morning and Egypt around midday, local time.

Totality times by city in Spain and Egypt

Spain’s times come from the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), in Spanish peninsular official time, which is Central European Summer Time (CEST), two hours ahead of UT in August. The IGN’s 12:06 for Egypt’s maximum matches NASA’s 10:06 UT, which confirms that offset. Egypt’s times come from the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), in Egypt summer time, Eastern European Summer Time (EEST), three hours ahead of UT. ET in August is four hours behind UT. We did the UT and ET conversions.

The IGN gives one time per city for Cádiz, Málaga and Melilla and a start and end for Ceuta. NRIAG gives start, middle and end for Luxor, plus a partial eclipse that begins at about 11:40 and ends at about 14:30 Egypt summer time. The NRIAG page also cites 6 min 22.6 s for the greatest eclipse itself, which matches NASA.

Where in Spain is the eclipse total?

Totality covers Ceuta and Melilla, almost all of Cádiz province, part of Málaga and the southernmost parts of Granada and Almería, per the IGN. The rest of Spain sees a partial eclipse. Seville and Madrid are not in totality. Spain’s Ministry of Science site says the band of totality crosses the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea.

The Government of Gibraltar said on Jan. 16, 2026 that the territory will see a total (100%) solar eclipse on the morning of Aug. 2, 2027. It published no times. Spain also had a total eclipse on Aug. 12, 2026, which is now past.

How long does totality last in Egypt?

NASA’s path table gives 6 min 22.6 s at the instant of greatest eclipse (10:06 UT). Its map page says the greatest duration is 6 min 23.2 s, at 10:00:21 UT near 26°49’N, 31°08’E. NRIAG lists durations along the Nile.

What about Saudi Arabia, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and Morocco?

We found no official city times for these countries, and they are not given here. Official times have not yet been published.

How do you watch the partial phases safely?

NASA’s eclipse safety page, updated Mar. 20, 2026, says safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and ought to comply with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 12312-2 international standard. It states that eclipse glasses are not regular sunglasses. NASA says to view the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial phases before and after totality.
